Penn State researchers are exploring unknown territory when it comes to gambling in the state of Pennsylvania. Glenn Sterner, assistant professor of criminal justice at Penn State Abington and coordinator of the Greater Philadelphia Office of the Criminal Justice Research Center, has been awarded a contract through the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs to assess impacts of interactive, online gaming in Pennsylvania.
Jivaka.net — the recently-released project of C. Pierce Salguero, associate professor of Asian history and religious studies at Penn State Abington — is the product of a years-long survey of Buddhist temples and centers located in the Philadelphia area. Much of the research legwork for the site was completed by undergraduate students working with Salguero.
Thanks to a grant from the Schreyer Honors College and the support of a Penn State Abington professor, a student presented her research at the 18th International Hemingway Conference in Paris.
Penn State’s Social Science Research Institute, in collaboration with the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, has awarded over $200,000 in funding to support 10 new interdisciplinary teams of Penn State researchers whose work is aimed at combating the opioid epidemic.
